Ecological vandalism

Too f...king late Australia. You've made your bed and now you can lie in it.  You could have looked across the Tasman for a warning.
Abott to dredge the Great Barrier Reef

Via Facebook

.... And so it has begun. After only 24 hours as prime minister, Tony Abbott has put the Marine Park Suspension into play, with dredging construction already underway to create Australia's newest shipping highway, Abbott point, better known as the Great Barrier Reef.

Completely disregarding the World Heritage Classification or UNESCO protection, Rinehart is removing 3 MILLION cubic meters of the worlds most diverse largest living organism and ecosystem only to build the largest coal export terminal.

We are going to lose one of the worlds most truly precious gems to a temporary and damaging "solution".

The Great Barrier Reef will no longer exist because of Abbotts desire for CSG export income. So please reblog and share this to show your support for saving natures gift to the world.

Wake UP Australia, and spread the word

You can tell Tony Abott what you think of his plans HERE

This does not exactly seem to be headlines. I had to search and found this on an activist website

Greens: Abbott OKs Great Barrier Reef Destruction
Tony Abbott’s Great Barrier Reef policy, reported on today, completely ignores the impacts of mining industrialisation, just like Kevin Rudd’s does, say the Australian Greens.

2 September, 2013

Tony Abbott has joined Kevin Rudd today with a toothless Great Barrier Reef policy that does nothing to stand in the way of the reef being turned into a dumping ground for dredge spoil and a shipping super highway for the big mining companies,” Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens environment spokesperson, said.

Only the Greens are taking heed of UNESCO’s warning that the Great Barrier Reef could be added to the international list of World Heritage sites in danger by next year if the reef continues to be industrialised at such an alarming rate.

The Greens are standing up to the big mining companies with a plan to stop new dredging and offshore dumping of dredge spoil in this World Heritage Area and put an end to damaging port expansions like Abbot Point.

While we agree that funding for crown of thorns eradication is needed, the problem will only be exacerbated by the continued mass dumping of dredge spoil which lowers water quality, creating ideal conditions for this invasive species.

The Greens have a comprehensive $176 million Great Barrier Reef package, which includes increased funding for the Reef Rescue program, which supports farmers improving the water quality of their runoff to the reef, and an extra $20 million a year for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority to properly resource its important research, regulatory compliance and community engagement.

We are also committing $16 million for long-term reef planning to set clear no-go zones for destructive development.

While Tony Abbott wants to hand federal approval powers for developments that impact on nationally significant environmental assets, like the Great Barrier Reef, over to state governments, the Greens long-term reef plan will ensure Campbell Newman is not given total responsibility for the Great Barrier Reef,” Senator Waters said.

  2. This is absolutely terrible. When this happens it will tip the already delicate balance in the ecosystem towards ruin and will mean doom for entire planet. It is like cutting off your limbs to eat as sustenance that feeds only the worst parts of you. Disgusting. How do rich people get to ignore LAWS? Disgusting.

    1. I tried to say it better, I couldn't - I love how you think! Because that's more than I can say about the people named in the article... It is very disturbing when people in politics/power want to play God and test him and Mother Nature and Father Time, time of which we are running out of... Nature always heals itself, let it!!!
