3 years on - Focus on post-quake Christchurch

The focus on Radio New Zealand has been on Christchurch this morning – on the difficulties that people are having in the 4th year since the earthquake coping with the emotional loss; the stress of ongoing negotations with insurance companies and the like; and the stress of a city that is being dug up and taken over by orange cones.

Some emotionally (if not intellectually-) -challenged people have expressed the view that they are “sick of hearing about Christchurch”.

No doubt their tune will change once some disaster is unleashed on Auckland.

It is true that anybody living outside of the disaster zone has no idea of what it is like.

Some of us, with just a little empathy, try to imagine what it is like.

It brings up the old adage “there but by the grace of God go I”
