Climate change in the Antipodes

Weather in the Antipodes and el-Nino

On my daily dawn patrol on the waterfront in NZ this morning there was a gentle Southerly, 6/8 Knts. We are in the first days of winter. I 'felt' that the southerly , coming off the Antarctic was warmer than I would have expected

Wind direction, 250 millibar. 06/12/2014. The Trade Winds usually blow from East to West. This stacks up water near Indonesia. With the winds stopping or starting to blow from West to East, the stacked up warmer water in the Pacific is heading back toward the East. The wind is also blowing over areas of the Pacific that have been warmed by Greenhouse gases and various other causes. The arrows are pointing toward the United States, Central and South America etc. El Nino is on it's way. I think it is more than that, as well

It is decidely mild here in New Zealand. My partner has just arrived back from the West Coast of the South Island and described the nights as sultry and high humidity and kept her awake. It is supposed to be winter! Very little snow on the Southern Alps.
