Considering
that even German publication Spiegel is now reporting that that
"Vladimir
Putin has won the propaganda war over Ukraine and the West is
divided",
it is hardly surprising that western coverage of the Ukraine civil
war has ground to a halt: without a coherent agenda, the western
propaganda machine is unsure of just what the right angle is in its
coverage of Ukraine events, which is why as in the case of last
summer's Syrian conflict coverage, the "free media" has
simply decided to push back events in east Ukraine to the page 8, if
cover it at all.
Unfortunately,
for the locals in the separatist regions, while the west may now
chose to simply close its eyes to the consequences of its
intervention the civil war is all too real and deadly: as RIA
reports, there were multiple casualties after a fighter jet attack
struck the eastern city of Luhansk. "The assault was followed by
heavy gunfire on the ground, causing panic among civilians." RT
has more:
At least five people have been killed in the attack, according to RIA Novosti. Many wounded are still trapped inside the administration headquarters, which caught on fire. The death toll may rise.
The building façade has been seriously damaged. The wounded are being evacuated from the administration HQ. About six ambulance vehicles have arrived at the site.
Large blood stains inside the HQ could be seen on live-streaming video from the area, with pieces of glass and stones also visible on the floor. The camera operator was choking with smoke. On the outside, many windows are shattered, shell fragments covering the nearby area and dark plumes of smoke are coming from the fourth floor.
“The fire has engulfed the third and fourth floors of the building, and the windows have been blown out. There are shards of glass everywhere. I saw paramedics carrying people out of the entrance,” a witness told RT.
Minutes earlier, heavy machine-gun shooting was reported in the center of Lugansk, as fierce fighting between the local self-defense squads and Kiev forces renewed after a brief truce.
Kiev
officials were quick to deny that Ukraine had launched a fighter jet
attack against its own people: something which caused a quick and
violent
condemnation of the former Ukraine president and his even
more prompt ouster.

So
what is really going on in Lugansk? The following just

People
in eastern Ukraine have accused the Kiev government of committing
genocide against civilians, Press TV reports.
On
Monday, at least 10 people were killed, including several civilians
during Kiev’s military activities in the eastern Ukrainian city of
Luhansk.
Government
buildings and checkpoints in Luhansk held by pro-Russia protesters
were targeted by at least two Ukrainian Air Force strikes.
Following the attacks, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that "The authorities in Kiev have committed another crime against their own people." "Everything that has taken place (there) indicates the downright unwillingness of the Kiev authorities to move towards seeking ways for national accord in the country,” it added.
Earlier
in the day, several Ukrainian border guards were also injured in an
attack on their camp in the volatile city.
Similar
attacks have been carried out by the Ukrainian army over the past few
days.
A civilian woman living in eastern Ukraine told Press TV about her cousin that “About four or five days ago bombs landed on the flower market, he was killed by shrapnel and recently buried.”
Another woman also said, “How could we live constantly under bombing, I think people should start thinking, both the new president (Petro Poroshenko) and our militia they need to sit at a table and negotiate.”
Meanwhile,
a video has emerged, showing a number of the Ukrainian troops
surrendering to the supporters of the self-proclaimed People’s
Republic of Luhansk.
On
May 12, Donetsk and Luhansk declared independence following local
referendums in which the regions’ residents voted overwhelmingly in
favor of independence from Kiev.
The
referendums followed a similar vote in Crimea in March that led to
the reunification of the peninsula with the Russian Federation.
Nearly 97 percent of participants in Crimea’s referendum voted for
rejoining Russia.
Lugansk
attacked by
Ukrainian Air Force
The
city of Lugansk in the easternmost part of the ex-Ukraine has been
attacked by Ukrainian combat aircraft. See for yourself:
The
aircraft in question is a Sukhoi-25, a close air support aircraft
which might well become the major threat for the NDF in the next few
days or weeks.
The
Su-25 is very hard to shoot down. It's cabin is armored and its
widely separated engines are both equipped with highly survivable ans
redundant systems.
Unlike
the Ukrainian artillery the Su-25 can be used for very precise
strikes but unlike the Ukrainian attack helicopters the Su-25 is
extremely maneuverable and comparatively fast.
The
Su-25 can fire guided and unguided missiles and bombs, it has a
powerful dual 30mm gun and all sorts of pods, guidance systems and
radars can be attacked to it. In other words, and just like the
formidable US A-10, the Su-25 is an ugly but extremely effective
close air support aircraft and if the Ukrainians can find enough of
these in semi-decent condition and if they can find enough pilots
willing to fly them, then this could be very bad news for the NDF who
would have to put a lot of effort into defending their airspace from
these extremely capable attackers.
