Admiral Jonathan W. Greenert who is the US Chief of Naval Operations arrived in Auckland today. He will visit the Devonport Naval Base and will later travel to Wellington.

His New Zealand counterpart, Rear Admiral Jack Steer said Admiral Greenert is in New Zealand to discuss a range of matters, including co-ordinated responses to international humanitarian assistance and disaster relief events.

Admiral Steer said New Zealand personnel have learned a lot through working with the United States military and Admiral Greenert's visit will build on what he calls that excellent working relationship.

Earlier this week in Canberra, Admiral Greenert said the United States wants to expand its Pacific presence, including basing ships in Australia.
