Grain-based agriculture, not eating meat, is killing the planet

To finish off the weekend with a break from the heavy news here’s Lierre Keith, American writer, radical feminist, food activist, and radical environmentalist talking sense about the human diet, agriculture and the harm it is causing.

The Vegetarian Myth

What we eat is destroying both our bodies and the planet, according to author Lierre Keith, a recovering twenty-year vegan.

While she passionately opposes factory farming of animals, she maintains that humans require nutrient-dense animal foods for good health.

A grain-based diet is the basis for degenerative diseases we take for granted (diabetes, cancer, heart disease) - diseases of civilization.

Annual grain production is destroying topsoil and creating deserts on a planetary scale. Lierre urges the restoration of perennial polycultures for longterm sustainability.

  1. This is total nonsense. First of all our ancestors did NOT always eat meat. Actually, the fossel records that I studied in detail while writing the chapter On Evolution in my book, I found that our ancestors did not eat meat for tens of thousands of years. During this time the fossel records are virtually absent of gum disease or tumors, and after droughts and the ice age mankind's ancestors started to consume meat and the fossel record is latent with gum disease and tumors.

  3. Sorry people having been on the board of a number of Weston Price organizations all I can say is that those Weston Price fanatics (and their "leader" Ms. Sally Fallon) are obsessed and delusion on the subject of population. Not that there are too many of us, but that we are suffering from a fertility problem and that there are not enough of us.

So, if you feel there aren't enough humans on the planet and that the planet can support more of us (and less of other life forms) then supporting Weston Price is for you and you should go out (as Ms. Fallon did) and have many, many, many children (just pop them out as fast as you can) before humans go extinct.

It's beyond belief (and proof of how truly stupid humans are) that Ms. Fallon and her followers seem to be unable to do simple math (and how many of these dummies have actually watched Albert Barlett's "Arithmetic, Population and Energy" presentation) and have concluded that despite the ever increasing number of human's on the planet over the past century that we are actually suffering from a fertility problem.

It never seems to occur to this (not critical thinkers) that perhaps the infertility is nature's way of telling us to just enjoy sex and not pop out these creatures. If you want to raise a child I'm sure you can find an orphan somewhere on the planet, but no it's got to have your DNA because as Lilly Tomlin used to say, "You're just so special."
